OKAY THIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND HE IS THE MOST AWESOME PERSON IN THE WORLD. BUT I DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS RELATIONSHIP.

I don’t care about her looks, but the way she behaved for all the time made me feel sick. How she treated her own mother and everyone else around. She was fucking selfish and rude and I could understand if she wasn’t pretty if she would’ve been a nice person. I would totally understand that people liked her if she was just a nice person. But she was fucking asshole full of herself, all she cared about was her own problems. She thought that she was some kind of music goddess and that her taste is the best in the world. She lied all the time and she wasn’t even smart. She didn’t have any positive thing in herself. And that’s why I don’t understand how could he like her that much.

I understand where you’re coming from but all of those bad qualities were given to her in series 2. I have always said that Rae in series 2 felt like a completely different character than the Rae of series 1. Rae lost herself in s2. I was very, very upset with how she treated everyone around her especially her mum and Finn. She completely disregarded both of their feelings and it was so hard to watch. But… Rae’s NOT a horrible person. She’s actually very caring. She comforted Finn when he lost his nan. Finn himself is a bit of a music snob but eventually music became their thing, their connection. She makes him smile. He feels comfortable talking to her about things. He admires her strength. They relate on so many personal issues that we have yet to see them talk about. Like the abandonment of a parent. Losing a loved one. Finn his nan and Rae losing Tixy. Rae’s a good person who allowed her problems to blind her. Finn understands Rae has issues and doesn’t judge her for her mistakes.

And… Just because a person does shitty things from time to time doesn’t mean they’re not worthy of love. The thing about Rae in season 2 is that she’s deliberately doing crappy selfish things to push away the people in her life who love her because she feels unworthy of love. She’s mentally ill, and so much of her negative behavior stems from that. She does shitty things because she’s sick, not because she’s a bad person.

It’s also really important to remember that because everything is from Rae’s point of view, what we are shown is a reflection of how she is feeling about herself. Rae feels unworthy of love, selfish, and ugly, so those traits are reflected in how she is portrayed and ultimately what the story is focused on. How she sees herself and how others view her are completely different. So while she is focusing on all the shitty things she has done, others most likely see her good traits: bravery, loyalty, strength, perseverance, etc…Part of the reason we all love episodes from other characters’ POV is that Rae is an unreliable narrator. So much insight into Rae was gleaned from just two non-Rae POV episodes, so there must be oodles of things we haven’t been shown that add to the reasons why everyone loves her.
