So, as you may or may not know, I like to rewatch painful episodes just to see if there’s anything I/we missed. I don’t know if anyone’s noticed this particular moment in S02E05, but I thought I’d post it to see if anyone else has.

Finn’s just arrived to the pub with Olivia. He’s just grabbed an extra chair from the table nearby and he’s already said his greetings to the gang.

It’s a moment so fleeting that if you were to blink, you’d have missed Archie worrying himself over two of his best mates. Right now he knows Finn is just trying to move on. He gets it. But he sees Rae and he can see the look on her face. Underneath the bravado she’s putting on so no one feels like they have to worry about her, he can see the hurt in her eyes as she wanders them downcast. The way her face hangs as she tries to avoid looking directly at the new couple sitting at the table.

He doesn’t know how to make this better, but he tries anyway. He tries to say her name. Maybe they could go up and get drinks together so that she’s away from Finn and Olivia. They wouldn’t even have to take the drinks back. They could chat at the bar and he could keep her occupied. Or, if she wanted to, they could just leave. Take flight.

But when he goes to say her name, all he hears is, “Rae, d’you want another snakebite and black?” and he bites his tongue.
