(and it’s a better-ish day) Have a fic preview/snippet for the Police AU:
Rae stopped abruptly. “‘The Straight Girl’s Guide to Sleeping with Chicks’?” Her voice was barely a whisper but she couldn’t stop the chuckle that followed. Maybe Miss Mavis wasn’t quite so clean cut. She continued on, finding books that ranged from the philosophy in motorcycle maintenance to Dr. Seuss and back to how to have good sex. Mavis Wilcox was not some cookie cutter girl living on the sixteenth floor of a luxury apartment building. She had memories and appointments and things that were important to her.
Which was why DS Rachel Earl was standing in the living room. Mavis was an attractive twenty six year old primary school teacher who hadn’t been to work in two days. She was called Lori by her friends and she had six messages on her answering machine that she would never hear.
Because Lori Wilcox had been found dead on the floor of her apartment just two hours ago.
“What’ve we got Rae?”
She looked up to see her partner, DS Archibald Tate, walk into the flat carrying two cups. “Archie, up late were you?” She’d been in the flat for nearly an hour. She gave him a look as she accepted the drink from him.
Archie pushed his glasses up on his nose and raised both eyebrows. “Well, I may have had a houseguest.”
She smirked. “Don’t think for one minute that we’re not discussin’ that.”
——
“I don’t have a partner.”
“We’ll get that sorted. I want you to get settled first. There are a few forms need signin’ and I’ve found you a desk. DI Curtis sent over your weapon and badge. I’ll get those signed out to you as well.”
Finn just nodded. He was far too hungover for this.
The man across the desk from him sighed. “How are ya? Honest answer.”
“I don’t have an answer. I feel fine. Me head’s on straight and I’m ready to get back to normal.” He didn’t want to oversell it. He really felt fine, physically, but he wasn’t sure about the rest of him.
“Right.” Thomas tapped the desk with his knuckles before he stood up again. “Come wi’ me. I’ll show ya to your desk, we’ll get you a locker, then we’ll go and get your badge.”
He nodded before he followed the man out of his office.
