The thing that gets me about cultural appropriation is that no one talks about how Hawaiian culture is appropriated in the media. And the fact that we fucking roll with it to attract tourists. Like. I literally walk into wal-mart and there’s a whole section for tourists. There’s coconut bras and raffia skirts in different colors and it’s like??? Even on the other side of the island, where most of the tourists go, EVERY FUCKING STORE has some stereotypical “Hawaiian” shit. It bugs me. What also bugs me is that in movies, you see people throw Hawaiian themed parties and they slap on some fake flower leis, play some ukulele music and call it a fucking day. They even go so far as to wave their hands in the air and call it hula. Like, no. Stop appropriating my culture for your amusement.
